~Thoughtfully Bred, Lovingly Raised~
Loblolly Moon Farm
We are a small, family homestead just outside of Richmond, Virginia. We produce a few litters of miniature bernedoodle puppies each year on our 10-acre farm in Hanover County. Call us up, and come over and see for yourself where responsible breeding and ethical salesmanship intersect with a love for animals. Visitors are welcome. If there’s one thing we love, it’s showing off our dogs and talking shop.
About us
We moved here from the city when our five kids were small, and what started with a handful of local chicks from Craigslist blossomed into a hobby farm of epic proportions. Free-ranging chickens galore, turkeys, guineas, Sebastopol geese, pigs, and dairy goats have been our calling. Breeding and raising dairy goats has been my passion for the last several years. Goats can be, long story short, very rewarding, though difficult animals to raise. There are “goat whisperers” among us, for sure, but sadly, I, despite my best efforts, am not one of them. After several years of raising dairy goats, my husband, Brian (not a goat fan…or a goat cheese fan, for that matter) had been trying to convince me that my energy may be better spent elsewhere. I had also been pining for a puppy of my own because we had lost our Olde English Bulldogge, Ursula, a few years before, and with the sad realization that another baby was most likely not in the cards for us, I had been living with a terrible case of puppy fever.
I had dreamed of owning a “doodle” dog since I first saw one in downtown Richmond in my early twenties, but Brian’s dream dog, the bulldog, won out in the early days of our marriage – and with absolutely no regrets; she was an incredibly lovable, sweet dog. But now it was my turn, and thus began the laborious search for my beloved Shelby, the bernedoodle that started it all. We were really taken aback by some of the breeders and practices that we encountered in our search for one of these dogs. We rationalized that we could do it better, and have a lot of fun, to boot. I enjoy nurturing and caring for mother animals, and I absolutely love all things baby. We put a lot of effort into caring for our dams and seeing that our puppies get the best start possible.
